About Jill
2025 heralds forty years of trips to the Sound of Harris. It is only in the last five years I have worked out how to paint what’s on my doorstep. Early years with a young family it all felt very remote.
There was no car ferry to Leverburgh only a small boat passenger ferry between the small islands often disrupted by weather.
There was only a single track road with passing places down from Storoway.
There were no street lights on the Strond.
It felt like a true adventure for everyone of all ages . Despite all the improving services and connections it is still a rare experience. In the last five years I have sailed in Iceland to New Zealand via the Galapagos and French Polynesia. Short trips of only a few weeks.
It is only with the knowledge that time brings spent in a place, that I can create the paintings.
